Starting with Godot by making a Platformer.
I published my first ever game today! I hope this is a start of an awesome journey ๐
I will sum up how I got here in this post.
I first entertained the thought of learning how to play games about 6 months ago. I was watching game jams and devlogs on youtube and it all seemed very entertaining! Also I am studying computer science right now and my university offers game developer degree. Quite convenient maybe?
So I jumped in, trying to research a good game engine to learn. First - Unity came to mind. Certainly great engine, but something about it didn't sit right with me. Unreal seemed to be an overkill for complete beginner like me. GameMaker didn't look serious enough to me for some reason.. and then I stumbled upon Godot and I liked it the most from day 1 ๐
Here we are, about 4 months later. HeartBeast's Godot tutorial gave me a huge boost in the beginning. I then tried to make few projects that were definitely beyond my skill and kinda burned me out right away. Later I stepped back and told myself - let's make something I can manage. Something simple that I roughly know how to make. The go-to genre was of course a platformer :)
And now it's here! Honestly I would be surprised if someone even noticed this game, but still. Even though it probably looks like a jam game, it's a proof I can make a game, which is exciting!
More to come!
